Start the Ultimate Relationship, August 2-10, 2008 Print E-mail

www.ultimaterelationship.net

Dear Friends,

In August, the ministers of 12 churches* met over lunch at St Paul’s Castle Hill to consider staging several church missions under the one banner on August 2-10, 2008.

We thought this was a good time, as the temperature for discussion about matters to do with God will be especially high following the Pope’s visit. There was enough enthusiasm for each of us to take the idea to our teams and since then, through discussions at the Western Region and Wollongong Region conferences, a number of other churches have decided to join us.

The ideas we are working through are spelt out below.

Yours in Christ,

Dominic Steele

Background

  • We all want to see a quantum increase in the evangelistic temperature in each of our individual patches – leading to more people won to Christ.
  • With World Roman Catholic Youth Day coming (July 15-20, 2008) and the overall rise in discussion about the things of God, it’s the time to do something, but not the time for a central activity.

General Proposal

  • A mission week: run a mission week in each of our churches at the same time, leading into an evangelistic course.
  • Half our members: aim to see more than half the members of our individual churches each give a week of annual leave to this cause.
  • Together: this is more likely to happen if we all do it together – Paul told the Corinthians of the Macedonians generosity to encourage them to go the extra mile.
  • Relationship: missions under the same advertising branding/banner in the forest of ‘Relationship’.
  • Autonomy: each mission has complete autonomy, but shares promotional resources and ideas.
  • Local: no centralised activities.
  • Sharing: the resources/ideas will be freely available to anyone else who wants to be involved.
  • Prayer: pray for the others involved before and during.

Potential

  • If we ran with this together as an idea, it could snowball and other churches could run with it – and there could be an overall increase in the evangelistic temperature.
  • Wouldn’t it make an extraordinary impact if it caught on across the Evangelical Churches, with perhaps tens of thousands of Christians were involved in mission in Sydney at the same time.

Start the Ultimate Relationship

  • After viewing a market research powerpoint presentation from Matt Andrews of Singleton Ogilvy we considered five different mission titles and have now settled on ‘Start the Ultimate Relationship.’

Resources we are working on

  • Graphics for bulletins, newspaper ads, letter box/shopping centre flyers etc – colour & B/W
  • Banners – i.e. the hang between the trees things
  • In-church announcement stuff, eg video clips, powerpoint slides
  • Web-based stuff to embed or link to
  • Teaching resources – small groups, sermons, SRE teachers (esp. high school)
  • Posters for church notice boards, community notice boards (doctors, Maccas etc)
  • Mission/training ideas & material – some basic "how to’s".
