Some mission events are 'high bar' events and some events are 'low bar' events. Some events are 'cross the line events' some events are 'first date' events.
The first event we have planned - just because of the Archbishop's availablity - is a dinner where Peter Jensen is speaking under the heading 'Start the Ultimate Relationship.' (Download video, audio, handout.)
I think every mission needs at least one 'Signature Event' where we
state the main game.
I remember a mission in the 1980's where there were three talks:
- Is AIDS the judgement of God?
- What is a Christian and How to become one?
Very interestingly at that mission by far the most number of guests attended the third talk. I think it was because if our members have 'one shot' at inviting their guests then they are going to invite them to an event where the main game is central.
Therefore I think you should plan at least one absolutly clear 'signature main event' where it is crystal clear to everyone that this is the one to work towards.
In this mission this week we have two such events. One with Peter Jensen speaking on Wednesday night and one with me speaking on Sunday night.
We have asked Peter to give an address directed at the postmoderns. About half the guests are postmoderns in their late 20's - and the other half are our members parents.
We have asked Peter to (a) invite people to an Introducing God course starting the following Wednesday night and (b) invite people to pray to turn to trust Christ and begin relationship with God.
The runsheet we are going with is:
