Goals for mission Print E-mail

In planning mission the two goals in tension are 'training the team' vs 'getting the job done.'  My view is that we will have more impact for Christ in the long run if in planning and organising mission we put training ahead of getting the job done.

This means I want lots of people to come on mission and for each person to have a essentially a custom designed program - where they each climb a personal mountain, and discover that they can serve Jesus in a new way.

There is a tension though.  We try to resolve it by having the absolute key platform moments filled by really experienced people (for example I chaired and the Archbishop spoke on Wednesday night and Andrew will chair and I will speak on Wednesday night), but at every other moment we are attempting to give people who haven't done it before a go.

Last night at the film night Ben had his first go at chairing a Christian evening, tonight at the photography evening Peter chaired.  And Christine gave an excellent presentation on 'My picture of God.'
