Start the Ultimate Relationship, August 2-10, 2008 Print E-mail

www.ultimaterelationship.net

Dear Friends,

In August, the ministers of 12 churches* met over lunch at St Paul’s Castle Hill to consider staging several church missions under the one banner on August 2-10, 2008.

We thought this was a good time, as the temperature for discussion about matters to do with God will be especially high following the Pope’s visit. There was enough enthusiasm for each of us to take the idea to our teams and since then, through discussions at the Western Region and Wollongong Region conferences, a number of other churches have decided to join us.

The ideas we are working through are spelt out below.

Yours in Christ,

Dominic Steele

* John Gray, Rick Smith, Stefan Bull, Nigel Fortesque, Warwick de Jersey, Ian Powell, Paul Dale, Ted Brush, Bruce Hall, George May, Stephen Abbott, Ross Hathway, Joe Wiltshire, Dominic Steele

The inner west is not big on teenagers, so we are running a little behind the eight ball here.  But we used 'Start the Ultimate Relationship' week to up the anti in our ministry to youth.

Sam reports: On the friday night, Crossfire had its first evangelistic night - "Ultimate Reality". It was part of Annandale Community Church's 'Start the Ultimate Relationship' week, and was a great night.

Here's how we planned what we did on our night:

Goals for mission Print E-mail

In planning mission the two goals in tension are 'training the team' vs 'getting the job done.'  My view is that we will have more impact for Christ in the long run if in planning and organising mission we put training ahead of getting the job done.

Door knocking and conversation stall feedback Print E-mail

When people get back from door knocking and conversation stall they arrive back in dribs and drabs.  It's great to strike when the irons hot and do feedback immediatly.  We start the feedback when the first people arrive.

The organiser people always want to do it in small groups etc, but I always like to do it all in one big group so that I can have input into coaching how to do the conversations better.

dallimore-doorknocking.jpgKnocking on doors or having conversations with strangers is a really important part of mission.  I try to schedule things so that all team members spend about an hour a day doing this and then a further 30-40 minutes debriefing and praying about the conversations they had.
