The Big Change E-mail

ERIC FU

Auburn Gracepoint Church

My family is not very religious; although my dad believes in Buddhism, my mother and elder brother are both indifferent. I grew up in Hong Kong and spent the first ten years of my life there. As a child I went to a Catholic primary school where I first learnt the history of Christianity. Back then I was not too sure about the whole thing; it seemed more like a story or fairytale. As I went through my teenage years I was taught in high school science class Darwin’s theory of evolution, and that life has existed for millions of years. These kinds of theories were ingrained in my head and tested in exams, and soon enough they were treated as facts.

The average city worker either works during their lunch break, takes a jog through Hyde Park or reenergizes with a 20 minute power nap, but something quite different was happening at Governor Phillip Tower.

A group of Christians from a prominent legal firm ran ‘Introducing God’ over ten weekly lunchtime sessions with six to twelve people. They watched the Bible talks by Dominic Steele on DVD and then followed it up with discussion over tea and coffee.

"I'm much clearer in what I believe" - retirement village ministry E-mail

Effective use of iGod at a retirement village

retirementvillage.jpg Bev Menzies has run Introducing God twice at a retirement village in Northmead, and has found it very effective in reaching churched retirees with the gospel of Jesus.

The group of 8-12 residents met weekly in the village’s cinema to watch the DVDs, then afterwards moved into a nearby meeting room to discuss the topics raised over afternoon tea.

According to local church worker and course driver Bev Menzies, the guests related well to the discussion time, the stories and the talks, and felt comfortable to talk about the ideas presented by Dominic Steele.

“They could explore what their faith meant to them in a relaxed atmosphere and ask questions,” said Bev.

Australia’s most popular evangelistic course is now available in a book

igod_book.gif

"We expect the Introducing God book to kick start many people's relationship with God" says author Dominic Steele. "The book will help them meet the God who loves us all."

Mr Steele says it will be given out after evangelistic events and he hopes readers will then want to take part in an Introducing God course.

The book has been launched by Anglican Dean of Sydney Phillip Jensen and Bible Society NSW CEO Daniel Willis. At the launch Rev Jensen says Christians should buy consignments of the book to give away to friends.
