'Great stuff, I can recommend it highly' E-mail

Review by David WayneDavid Wayne

Awhile back the publishers sent me a new book called Introducing God by Dominic Steele that is part of an evangelism course of the same name. I owe them an apology for taking so long to review this, but finally got around to reading it and wanted to share a few thoughts on the book.

This evangelism course is out of Australia and, as I said, the book is a part of it. The book is only a resoruce for the course so I haven't reviewed the course and can only speak on the book.

Having said that, if the book is any indication, it must be a very fine course. And that leads to me to one major frustration - I can't find anywhere that it is available in the U.S. So, to any of my Aussie and Kiwi readers out there, and other parts of the world that can get it, I'd recommend it highly.

'...the best resource of its kind...' - John Chapman E-mail

Review by John Chapman

Introducing God is the latest and, in my opinion, best of the ‘Alpha’ type courses which are available at the present moment to help us evangelize our friends. I use the term ‘Alpha’ because of the format—meeting with friends over a meal, listening to a talk or watching a video, and then discussing this around the table.

Review by Ben Johnston

If you're looking for a resource that will help you introduce God to others, then you can't go past the Introducing God course recently released by Christians in the Media. The course aims to introduce people to God over 6-8 weeks as the presenter, Dominic Steele, takes us on a journey through the Bible - 'God's biography' - following the now well-known evangelistic outline of Two Ways to Live.

'An evangelistic blockbuster' E-mail

Review by Stuart Bonnington

Introducing God has taken the structure of the Alpha Course and the content of Two Ways to Live and come up with an evangelistic blockbuster. From the Introductory Session all the way to the weekend away - around the theme 'The difference Jesus makes' - via the multi-media presentations, this is a finely crafted and carefully shaped course.

Review by David Miers

"And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." (John 17:3 - ESV) This verse, from Jesus' prayer recorded in the Gospel According to John, describes eternal life as knowing God. Eternal life isn't just having life forever, going to 'heaven', being forgiven, an end to pain or being justified. Eternal life is about relationship. Relationship with God: the Creator of the Universe. Relationship with His Son: the Lord Jesus Christ.

Review by David McKay

If you are one of those people who hate watching a football match after somebody has blurted out the result, or if you never saw the Titanic movie because you already knew the ending, you may want to hold off reading Introducing God until after you have been to a course. Dominic Steele’s book, released in 2006, is a faithful rendering of most of the talks that are shown during this ten week evangelistic program.

This opening disclaimer is not intended to turn you off the book, but to let you know that you may get more out of it if you use it as a way of reviewing the talks after you’ve already heard them in their originally intended context. Our church has just finished reviewing the program by meeting together on a Sunday evening at our minister’s place and watching one session, having some of his wife, Lesley’s delicious soup together, and then returning to the lounge room for a second session.

On reading the book after hearing the talks once, I realised how much thought had gone into putting the course together. The Christian message is presented in an attractive way, but the prickly bits are also included. The method of attack is to begin by painting a picture of Paul in Acts 17 introducing the Athenians to the God they don’t know, and then following the plan of Two Ways to Live.

'...don't we want to introduce God to everyone we know?' E-mail

Review by Angela Crittle

Dominic Steele with Melinda Chiew has written a personable, biblically sound book which successfully lives up to its title, Introducing God. This book is written for especially for non-Christians whose understanding of God and the gospel is minimal or seriously flawed. For Christians it is a must read before they give away copies as gifts in the hope the book will lead to some great discussions with their non-Christian friends, workmates and family.

The book's goal is clearly stated in its opening pages:

I hope you will get to know God as I know him - not just intellectually but personally and relationally.

'One of the best books to give away' - Mike Raiter E-mail

Michael RaiterYou’ve seen the DVD, now read the book! One of the most popular and effective recent evangelistic tools has been Dominic Steele’s professionally produced DVD Introducing God (a simple, obvious, but oh-so-clever title). Together with Melinda Chiew, Dominic has transferred his video series into an engaging book. Those who benefited from the series will find Dominic every bit as winsome an author as a speaker.

The book faithfully follows the DVD course, beginning with Dominic’s first talk built around the Apostle Paul’s address in the Areopagus, and then an examination of human autonomy, and so on until the concluding chapter which asks, Are you thirsty?
